"Pacific Battles" presents itself as an accessible yet strategically demanding turn-based strategy game set in the Pacific Theatre of World War II, accommodating one to two players. Participants can choose to lead either the United States or Japanese fleets on an 8x8 grid, reminiscent of chess but enriched with greater tactical depth.

In each turn, players command three distinct units that can be maneuvered and utilized for attacks. Each unit boasts unique move and attack ranges, allowing for various tactical possibilities. Players must carefully assess their positions to maximize their offensive capabilities against opposing forces. Once a player executes their movements, control shifts to the opponent for a retaliatory phase.

The mechanics behind the game's combat system incorporate multiple factors beyond mere attack points. Notable elements include critical hits—occurring at a rare 1% chance—and potential misses that could drastically influence the outcome of engagements. Furthermore, damage calculations accommodate scenarios where an attacking ship may inflict only 50% of its standard damage.
